Facebook hacker arrested in capital

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a hacker, who has so far hacked 100 Facebook accounts especially of female users to blackmail them, in the capital's Merul Badda yesterday.

Mahmudul Hasan, 20, a fourth semester computer science and technology student of East-West University, hacked FB accounts, gathered their personal pictures and information and finally threatened the account holders to leak those on social media if they did not accept his indecent proposals.

Following a complaint filed by a victim's husband on July 1, DB made the arrest.

At a press conference at Dhaka Metropolitan Police media centre, Monirul Islam, joint commissioner (media and public relations) of DMP, urged the public to inform police about every hacking incident on social media.

Hackers especially take advantage of new Facebook users who are not completely aware of every settings of Facebook and thus take control of the account and post off seen pictures or videos on timeline with tagging victim's friend circle.
