DU student 'tries to immolate' herself

A student of Dhaka University apparently tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire in TSC yesterday.

With 28 percent burns, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The student poured kerosene on her body inside a toilet on the first floor of the Teacher-Student Centre in the afternoon.

Following her scream, students and TSC officials rescued her, campus sources said.

The family of her “boyfriend”, who is also a DU student, said she had been going through hard times for the last couple of days due to a quarrel with him.

DU Proctor AM Amzad said, “We will take steps against the male student if he is found guilty.”
