DU to celebrate 94th anniversary today
Today is the 94th founding anniversary of Dhaka University. Established in 1921 under the Dacca University Act 1920 of the Indian Legislative Council, the university started its academic activities the same year on July 1.
The Dhaka University authorities have chalked out various programmes to celebrate “Dhaka University Day” on the campus today.
Prime Minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi will inaugurate the opening programme as chief guest by releasing pigeon in the morning.
A discussion will be held at TSC at 11:00am with Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair. Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan will deliver a lecture on “Higher Education and Sustainable Development”.
Besides, rare manuscripts will be displayed at the Central Library from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The biomedical physics and technology department will organise an exhibition of their research and invented medical technologies and equipment at 3:00pm. An art competition for children and an exhibition of arts and crafts will be held at 11:00am and 3:00pm respectively at the fine arts faculty.
The national flag will be hoisted at university buildings and dormitories. Colourful processions will be brought out, creating a festive mood.
The university started its journey with only three faculties, 12 departments, 60 teachers, 877 students and three student dormitories. At present, the university has 13 faculties, 80 departments, 1,926 teachers, 37,064 students, 23 dormitories, and 48 research bureaus and centres.
