Domestic help burnt inside house dies in Kurigram
A domestic help, who was burnt inside her employer's house in Kurigram, died after 12 hours of the incident at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday night, report our correspondents in Dinajpur and Kurigram.
Reba Khatun, 22, daughter of late Abdul Wahab of Sultan Bahdur village in the district's Rajarhat upazila, had been working as domestic help for her uncle Wares Ali since 2005, said sources at Kurigram Deputy Commissioner office.
On Sunday morning, Wares' wife went to drop their son at his school locking Reba inside a room in their house after her husband left for office, said locals.
Hearing her hue and cry around 9:00am, the locals broke open the door and found Reba being burnt.
They rescued and rushed her to Kurigram General Hospital.
She was later shifted to RMCH with 75 percent burn injuries, where she died, according to sources at the hospital.
The locals said they did not know what happened inside the house, but they raised a question as to why she was locked out by her employer.
Wares and his wife used to torture the girl, they alleged.
Wares, however, rejected the allegation, claiming that she attempted to commit suicide.
Abdus Sobhan, officer-in-charge of Kurigram Police Station, said no case was filed yet.
The body was handed over to her mother after an autopsy yesterday, added the OC.
