DU student stabbed by 'muggers'

A Dhaka University student was stabbed by muggers on campus on Sunday night.

The injured, Anup Aditya, is a master's student of applied chemistry and chemical engineering and a resident of Jagannath Hall.

A gang of muggers reportedly attacked Anup when he was returning to his dormitory from Palashi area around 9:30pm.

“When Anup tried to escape, the muggers stabbed him and left,” Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, told The Daily Star, quoting the victim's friends.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with stab wounds in his abdomen, the inspector said.

Contacted, DU Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani said some miscreants stabbed the student after failing to rob him. “We would gradually bring the entire campus area under CCTV surveillance to prevent such incidents,” he added.
