Ctg man jailed for raping woman

A Chittagong court yesterday awarded life-term imprisonment to a man for raping a woman in 2008.

It also fined the convict -- Md Jasim, 36, of Popadia in Boalkhali upazila -- Tk 50,000. Jasim is now on the run.

The court also directed the state to bear all the costs of maintenance of the child which the victim gave birth to after the incident.

According to the prosecution, on April 27 in 2008 Jasim raped the woman giving her false promise to marry.

Later on April 30 in the year, the victim lodged a rape case.
