Couple among 11 killed in road accidents

Eleven people were killed and 27 others injured in road accidents in four districts yesterday.

In Mymensingh, four persons were killed and 25 others injured when a bus skidded off Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Char Hossainpur area of Ishwarganj upazila, said police.

The dead are bicyclist Ratan Mia, 28, and bus passengers Hadis Mia, 35, Rezia Khatun, 35, and Hasina Khatun, 75.

Ratan and Rezia were from Ishwarganj, Hadis from Nandail in Mymensingh and Hasina from Jamalpur, said Ishwarganj police.

The injured were taken to Ishwarganj Upazila Health Complex from where 18 were transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

In Natore, three motorcyclists were killed when the vehicle collided with a passenger bus on Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway in Gurudashpur area, reports our local correspondent.

Police could not identify the deceased immediately.

Our Faridpur correspondent reports, a couple were killed and two others injured when a pickup ran over a rickshaw van in Phakira area of Sadar upazila.

The deceased are Faruk Sardar, 35, son of Yakub Sardar from Paikgachha upazila in Khulna; and his wife Sheuly Akter, 28.

The injured -- Noyon Sardar, 10, son of Faruk Sardar; and his cousin Miranul Sardar, 28 -- were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

In Feni, a trucker and his helper were killed when a covered van hit their vehicle on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Chhonuya area of Sadar upazila, reports a correspondent.

Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, vegetable traders Mahabubur Rahman, 40, and Nuruzzaman, 43, were killed as a truck ran them over in Panchagarh Sadar upazila.

Angry locals detained the truck of which driver and helper fled.
