City night guard shot while foiling robbery bid

A night guard was shot and injured as he foiled a robbery bid at Dakkhin Monipur in the capital's Mirpur early yesterday.

Shot in the waist, Joynal Abedin, 40, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He told reporters that he and a colleague noticed a gang of around eight robbers with firearms gathered in front of the gate of a building there.

Joynal said he blew his whistle and shouted “robber, robber”. So the miscreants shot him and fled.
