Chakki Russell remanded again

A Dhaka court yesterday placed Russell Chowdhury alias Chakki Russell on a five-day fresh remand in connection with the killing of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella on September 28.

The order came after Detective Branch of Police Inspector Zehad Hossain, also investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.

Earlier in the day, Chakki Russell was produced on the expiry of an eight-day remand.

In the remand prayer, the IO said three other suspects -- Tamjid Ahmed alias Rubel alias Shooter Rubel, Shakhawat Hossain alias Sharif and Minhazul Arifin Russell alias Bhagne Russell gave confessional statements where they disclosed Chakki Russell's involvement in the killing.

So he should be remanded to gather more information, he said.

Earlier, Shooter Rubel and Bhagne Russell confessed to the same magistrate that they along with Chakki Russell killed the Italian man.
