Bangladeshi found dead in Maldives
An undocumented Bangladeshi migrant was found dead with severe head injuries at an uninhabited house in Laamu Atoll Gan Island of the Maldives yesterday, reports Minivan News.
Ishag Yoosuf, 65, caretaker of the house, said he discovered the body of farm worker known as Bassan, 30, who had been working in the Maldives for 10 years.
Bassan's face was covered with a bloodstained pillow, he said, adding that blood splattered all over the walls up to eight feet.
“He (Bassan) told me he had asked the owner who is living in Malé if he could sleep in the house,” Ishag said.
House owner Thoha Waheed, however, denied that Bassan sought the permission.
Calling it a murder, police said investigation was going on.
This is the third apparent murder of Bangladeshis this year.
The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives expressed concern over the country's failure in protecting migrant workers.
Around 80,000 of total 1.24 lakh migrant workers in the Maldives are Bangladeshis. Some 30,000 are undocumented.
