Another petition filed for staying municipal polls
A Supreme Court lawyer yesterday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking stay on holding the upcoming municipality elections scheduled to be held on December 30.
SM Zulfiqure Ali Junu in the petition also praying to the HC to halt the allocation of symbols to the candidates on "technical" grounds.
Junu's lawyer AKM Ehanur Rahman told The Daily Star that there are some anomalies in the numbers in the schedules 2, 3, 4 and 5 announced under the Pourasava Election Rules, 2010, which were amended on November 23 this year.
Ehsanur also said the HC may hold hearing on the writ petition today.
Earlier on December 10, Junu served a legal notice to the Election Commission seeking steps for deploying army to create a level-playing field for the polls.
