5 'NGO staff' held for cheating jobseekers
Five persons including two women were arrested at Rajshahi city's Shadhur intersection yesterday after jobseekers raised allegations of being cheated in the name of employment.
Police did not disclose their names and said interrogation was underway.
“The NGO Sechchasebi Somaj Unnayan Shangstha was yet to get their registration,” said Ifte Khair Alam, an assistant commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
They allegedly sent recruitment notices for four posts to entrepreneurs of different information centres of union councils in Rajshahi and Naogaon through their mobile phones, said police.
Abdur Rahim, of Naogaon, said the NGO authorities collected Tk 150 to Tk 300 in name of exams, and promised every aspirant will be hired, which raised suspicion among them.
When demanding to see the recruitment permission of the district administration, they failed to show any government approval, he added. Later some 100 jobseekers confined them and informed police.11
