Law enforcers today seized 19,000 contraband yaba tablets and detained three people for allegedly trying to smuggle the drugs to Dhaka from Chittagong city.

On information, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) intercepted a Dhaka-bound bus of Shyamoli Paribahan at Kotwali area of the port city early today and recovered the yaba tablets which were hidden beside the driving seat, says a press release.

Three people were held in this connection, who later “admitted” during primary interrogation that they were taking the tablets from Cox’s Bazar to Dhaka, the release read.

The detainees were identified as Md Sabuj, 32, from Chandpur, Palash Mondol, 28, and Nasir Hawladar, 30, both from Barisal.

The Rab members also seized the bus, which was travelling to Dhaka from Cox’s Bazar, in this connection, the release added.

The value of the seized yaba tablets was estimated at Tk 95 lakh.
