Proof against 2 Netrakona war crimes suspects found, say Investigators

A tribunal in Dhaka today framed seven charges against three war crimes suspects of Bagerhat for their alleged crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

The three alleged Razakers are: Sheikh Sirajul Haque alias Siraj Master, 72, Khan Akram Hossain, 61, and Abdul Latif Talukdar, 68.

The three-member tribunal headed by M Enayetur Rahim fixed December 2 for starting the trial through opening statement.

The trio joined the Razakar Bahini, an auxiliary force of the Pakistani occupation army, in 1971 and committed killing, mass killing, rape, looting and arson, according to the prosecution.

PROOF FOUND AGAINST 2 NETRAKONA ‘RAZAKARS’

Investigators today said that they primarily found evidence against two war crimes suspect of Netrakona -- Obaidul Haque and Ataur Rahman -- for wartime offences.

The investigators found four incidents of crimes against them, Abdul Hannan Khan, chief coordinator of the investigation agency, said at a press briefing.

“We have found evidences their involvement in killing 15 people, looting and torching 400 to 450 houses in the district in 1971,” Khan told reporters at the agency’s Dhanmondi office in the capital.

“The probe report is likely to be placed before the prosecution today or tomorrow,” he said.
