Import-export through Benapole suspended due to Petrapole port workers’ strike
Import and export between Bangladesh and India through the Benapole land port have been suspended since this morning due to a strike called by Petrapole port workers.
Karthik Chandra Chakraborty, general secretary of Indian Petrapole C&F Agent Staff Welfare Association, said the strike was called in protest of India's Border Security Force (BSF) harassing traders in the name of security issues.
However, activities at Benapole Customs House and port, and movement of people between the two countries were normal, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting port sources.
Thousands of goods-laden trucks are stuck in the port areas of the two countries due to the strike, resulting in huge losses for the traders, our correspondent reports.
