NSU team wins local round of financial analysis contest
A student team from North South University (NSU) has won the local round of an annual global competition on financial analysis organised by investment management professionals' association CFA Institute.
They were among 114 teams from 27 universities in the country which took part in the CFA Institute Research Challenge 2018-19.
The competition provides hands-on mentoring and training on researching and analysing a publicly traded company before contesting teams write a research report on an assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation.
This time around the focus was on Brac Bank Ltd, with students putting months of effort in knowing its management, competitors and clients.
The NSU team will now compete in an Asia Pacific round in Sydney, one of five regional contests which pave the way for a global final.
The local round's closing ceremony at Lakeshore Hotels in Dhaka on Saturday had Khairul Hossain, chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, as the chief guest.
KAM Majedur Rahman, managing director of Dhaka Stock Exchange; Arif Khan, CEO of IDLC Finance, and Shahidul Islam, president of CFA Society Bangladesh, were also present.
