Bangladesh Jewellers' Association (BAJUS) is going to organise a three-day "Jewellery Expo 2022" from March 17 for the first time.

The event will be held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of the nation's independence.

BAJUS Treasurer Uttam Banik made the announcement at a press briefing at the BAJUS office in Dhaka today.

"This event will make an exhibition of our local workers' product across the home and foreign traders as we have taken all preparations to welcome them. 70 stalls will be displayed and we expect that over 2 lakh people will visit the event," he said.

The organiser hoped that this expo will enrich the local jewellery industry as well as contribute to the country's export of gold products by meeting domestic demand.

However, the announcement of arranging the expo came a day after BAJUS rose the prices of gold and silver due to the price hike in the international markets.

As per the new price of BAJUS, the price of 22-carat gold per gram will be Tk 6,800, 21-carat Tk 6,490 and 18-carat Tk 5,570.

According to foreign media sources, gold rose to more than $2,000 in Asian trade on Monday morning as investors fled to the safe-haven commodity over fears about the impact of the Ukraine war on the global economy.

The precious metal hit a peak of $2,000.86 an ounce, its highest level since September 2020.
