Govt assures considering demands of protesting NBR officials

The government would duly take into consideration the demands of the protesting officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The assurance came following a meeting between NBR officials and three government advisers, after which the finance ministry issued a statement.
After the meeting held at the secretariat today, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed told reporters that the separation of functions within the NBR would remain unchanged.
However, he noted that the concerns raised by officials would be taken into account when the government issues the notification under the new ordinance.
The dialogue took place in the wake of a five-day pen-down strike observed by NBR officials across the country under the banner of the "NBR Reform Unity Council."
The discussion was attended by the finance adviser, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Finance Secretary Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan, and members of the NBR Reform Advisory Committee, as well as representatives of the BCS (Taxation) and BCS (Customs and Excise) cadres.
