Factories to reopen gradually: BGMEA

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has said it will set dates for reopening member factories gradually. 

"Until any direction is received, you (factory owners) are requested not to ask workers to return to Dhaka," BGMEA said.

BGMEA yesterday issued a general directive to the member factories regarding reopening the factories.

"A zone-wise staggering approach will be adopted to open the factories in a limited capacity. In the first phase, you are advised to ask only the workers living near their respective factories to join," BGMEA said.

"BGMEA is requesting you not to retrench any worker on humanitarian ground," it mentioned in the general directive.

"If under any circumstance, the workers return to Dhaka from outside in an unsupported and irregular way, then BGMEA will not be able to help you as an association in this regard," it added.

"Your factory opening date will be communicated to you through email," said the directive.
