Consumers can dial 16121 to lodge complaint

Consumers now can lodge complaints with the Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) through dialling hotline number 16121 if their rights are violated.
The DNCRP has launched a hotline service called "Bhokta Batayan" (Consumer Window) to ensure the rights of consumers.
If any consumer's rights are violated, the remedy can be obtained by calling 16121, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said while speaking at a discussion at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day today.
The minister said if the allegation is proved, the consumer will be given 25 per cent of the fine immediately to encourage them. "Everyone needs to know consumer rights law."
Munshi said consumers also need to be aware of their rights. "We are all consumers.
Evan a businessman is also a consumer. We all have to work to protect the rights of a consumer."
The government has enacted laws to protect consumer rights and the law is being strictly enforced, he said.
"The scope of work of the DNCRP has been greatly enhanced. They are working at the district, upazila and even union level. It would be easier to protect consumer's rights if we work together," Munshi added.
