NSU celebrates first day of spring

Students of North South University celebrated the first day of spring, Pohela Falgun, at their Bashundhara campus with the event “Boshonto Utshob 1421” on February 14, 2015. The festivity started with a traditional colourful rally. Then the day-long cultural programmes contained an array of folk dance, drama and music.
Aly Zaker, CEO of Asiatic Marketing Communication Limited inaugurated the programme. Martuza Ahmed, Secretary, Ministry of Information attended the programme as chief guest, where Benajir Ahmed, Chairman, BOT was the special guest. Prof. Amin U. Sarkar, Vice Chancellor, NSU chaired the opening ceremony in presence of faculty members and students of the university. Dilara Afroz Khan, convener of the programme presented the welcoming speech.

DIU Chairman inaugurates KIIT Premier League 2015

Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman, BOT, DIU inaugurated the '8th All India Day & Night Cricket Tournament' titled “ KIIT Premier League 2015”  organised by Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT University) as the guest of honour during his visit to KIIT University, India on February 14, 2015. R. P. Singh, former Indian national team cricketer was the chief guest. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT & KISS chaired the inaugural ceremony. The program was also addressed by Prof. P P Mathur and Prof. A Samanta among others. A total of 12 university teams from different provinces participated in the tournament.

Seminar on cyber security and ICT act held at SEU

A seminar titled “Raising Awareness on Cyber Security and ICT Act” jointly organised by ICT Division of the government, Insight Bangladesh and Southeast University (SEU) was held on February 14, 2015 at the Seminar Hall of SEU Banani Office. It was organised as part of the government's nationwide awareness program on ICT Act at different levels.
Pro Vice Chancellor of SEU, Prof. Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury was present at the inaugural session of the seminar as chief guest, while Dean (Acting), SSE, Prof. Syed Fakhrul Hassan chaired the event. Chairman (Acting), Department of CSE, Shahriar Manzoor delivered the welcome speech and Chairman, Department of EEE & ICE, Dr. M Quamruzzaman presented the vote of thanks. Senior Lecturer, Department of CSE, Rezwan Al Islam Khan delivered a technical speech at the seminar. Among others,   Legal Support Analyst of Insight Bangladesh Suchana Ghatak, Director, PR, Atiqul Islam Khan, teachers and students of SEU were present.

Orientation of spring 2015 students at DEH, ULAB

Department of English and Humanities, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh arranged its spring 2015 orientation on February 11, 2015 at the Auditorium of Campus A. Dr. Kaiser Haq, Head of the department welcomed the newcomers and suggested them to be creative in their approach in studies and in other activities as well. Dr. Shamsad Mortuza, the Academic Advisor introduced the faculties to the new members of the DEH family. Prof. Golam Sarwar Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion and extended his helping hand to the new students.
A presentation on course coordination was given by Shayeekh-Us-Saleheen, the coordinator of the department where he explained to the freshers how to choose courses.

Report on food security and nutrition at BRAC Centre

A report titled “State of Food Security and Nutrition in Bangladesh: 2013” was launched on February 14, 2015 at BRAC Centre. The report states that the proportion of severely malnourished pregnant women has halved between 2012 and 2013.
It was launched by National Food Security Nutritional Surveillance Project (FSNSP) funded by the EU and implemented jointly by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), Ministry of Planning, James P. Grant School of Public Health at BRAC University and Helen Keller International (HKI).
EU First Secretary Gonzalo Sewana, was present as the guest of honour. The event was chaired by Director General of BBS, Golam Mostafa. M A Mannan, MP, State Minister of Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning was present as chief guest. Director of Nutrition, JPGSPH of BRAC University Dr Zeba Mahmud gave the keynote presentation. Country director of HKI, Dr Meredith Jackson-deGraffenried was present among other notable guests.

The World University of Bangladesh (WUB) hosted its 3rd Convocation at Rajarbagh Police Parade Ground on February 13, 2015. The event was chaired by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
