‘Bomber’ hurt in crude bomb blast

A youth sustained splinter injuries when a crude bomb he allegedly carried exploded in Khilgaon Railgate area of Dhaka this afternoon.
The victim, Md Kabir Hossain, 30, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with hand and leg injuries.
The bomb went off with a big bang around 10:30am when Kabir was walking towards Mugda from Amanullah Super Market at Khilgaon, said Mustafiz Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon Police Station.
Meanwhile, three crude bombs went off at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue in the capital today, on the first day of the 72-hour nationwide hartal sponsored by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Police arrested Jubo Dal activist Mohiuddin and recovered two petrol and four crudes bombs from his Kazipara resident in Dhaka.
On information, a team of Tejgaon police launched a drive at his rented house adjacent to Basundhara City Shopping Mall around 12:15pm, said ABM Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Tejgaon Police Station.
Police also seized one bottle petrol and bomb making materials from his possession.
The alliance enforced the hartal from 6:00am today protesting “repression” on its leaders and activists and also demanding fresh parliamentary polls under a neutral government.
The hartal will continue till 6:00am on Wednesday.

Two people including a policeman were injured in an attack by the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in the city.
Witnesses said a group of stick-welding Shibir men attacked the two human haulers carrying cops when the vehicles reached at Sheikhghat at about 7:00am.
A constable of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station and the driver of one of the human haulers sustained injuries as the front glasses of the vehicles were broken in the attack, an eye witness said.
Police are yet to arrest anyone in this connection as the Shibir men fled the scene soon after the incident, said Mohammad Rahamat Ullah, the additional Deputy Commissioner.
