Bomb blasts near Satkhira EC office
Miscreants blasted a crude bomb near the local election office in Satkhira Sadar upazila and four more in the town last night hours before beginning of the opposition-sponsored 48-hour nationwide shutdown.
None was injured in the incidents, reports our correspondent in Satkhira.
A rice-laden truck was also torched at Bhomra land port.
Meanwhile, activists of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth front of the BNP, blocked Dhaka-Sylhet highway for half an hour by felling logs and burning tyres in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj in the morning.
The BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance yesterday called the two-day hartal from 6:00am today, demanding cancellation of tomorrow's "farcical" election and protesting "confinement" of party chief Khaleda Zia.
The alliance called the shutdown at a time when their non-stop nationwide blockade of rail, roads and waterways has been going on, protesting against the holding of the polls.
