Bogra Jamaat leader held
Police arrested a Jamaat-e-Islami leader who was formerly a chairman of Shajahanpur upazila in Bogra this morning.
Yasin Ali, a member of Jamaat’s Bogra district committee, was accused in six cases with Shajahanpur and Sadar police station for attacking and torching local Awami League office.
Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police picked him up from Jaleshawaritola in the town around 11:30am, Gaziur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police (ASP), told our Bogra correspondent.
Yeasin was out of jail as he got bail in three of the cases. But the court recently issued an arrest warrant against him for not regularly appearing before it in connection with the cases.
Earlier in December, The Daily Star published a report stating that the then officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station Mahmudul Alam was allegedly bribed by the Jamaat leader with a piece of land.
In exchange, the Shahjahanpur police did not arrest Yeasin in the case filed for vandalising and torching the upazila Awami League office even 10 months of filing the case.
