BNP to march towards Teesta Apr 22
The BNP will organise a long-march towards the Teesta Barrage on April 22 demanding due share of water of the river.
Led by the party's acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the long-march will also protest against what the BNP said "the government’s failure to reach an agreement with neighbouring India to ensure the due share of water".
Fakhrul came up with the announcement at a press briefing at BNP’s central office at Nayapaltan in the capital today.
"An agreement to ensure the due share of water of the Teesta was supposed to be inked during Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Bangladesh in 2011. But the government failed to do so," he said.
"We will hold a rally at Daliya point of Lalmonirhat around 11:00am on the following day," the BNP leader said.
"We believe that the government would extend its all out cooperation to make the programme a success," Fakhrul said.
