BNP-backed panel wins SCBA election
The BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad has swept the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election, winning 13 out of 14 posts including those of president and general secretary.
Vice chairman of Bangladesh Bar Council Khandakar Mahbub Hossain, also adviser of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia, has been elected as president while SCBA’s incumbent secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon as general secretary.
Ruling Awami League backed layers panel, Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad, won only an executive member post.
The two-day election of SCBA ended last evening and unofficial election result was announced shortly after the midnight.
A seven-member committee led by Advocate Nur Hossain Chowdhury conducted the election where a total of 3,180 lawyers out of total 4,055 cast their votes.
