BCL defies ban again at RU
Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday, for the second time in a span of three days, violated a ban imposed by the RU authorities by bringing out a procession on the campus.
On March 3, the RU authorities imposed a ban on all types of processions, rallies, political activities and use of megaphones on the campus.
The order came following the February 2 attack by police and BCL activists on students protesting hike in fees and evening masters' programmes.
Some 100 BCL activists brought out the procession around 1:30pm marking a “courtesy call” on Vice-Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin by BCL President Mizanur Rahman Rana and General Secretary Tawhid-Al-Hossain Tuhin, said witnesses.
On Tuesday, the activist had brought out a procession on 35 motorcycles.
Talking to The Daily Star, the VC said the two met him and he did not know about the procession.
Proctor Prof Tarikul Hasan repeated Tuesday's assurance of taking steps against the accused.
