Baridhara stun BJMC

Relegation-threatened Uttar Baridhara produced a second upset in the Nitol Tata Bangladesh Premier League when they handed an emphatic 3-0 defeat to Team BJMC at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
Kenya's Collins Tiego, India's Faiz Alam and local Sujan Biswas struck one goal each to help Uttar Baridhara Club notch their second victory since their 3-2 win over Brothers Union.
Securing full three points means Baridhara got themselves off the bottom and leapfrogged to eighth position with 10 points from 13 matches. BJMC stayed just ahead of Baridhara with previous 15 points from 13 matches.
This was a reality check for Team BJMC, who had beaten giants Mohammedan 3-2 in their previous match.
BJMC were taken aback in the very fourth minute of the game when Nazrul Islam Sumon ran down the right flank to whip in a nice cross for Tiego, who rose high to head it in. The promoted side came close to doubling the lead in the 14th minute but Faiz saw his low drive denied by the woodwork.
After going one goal down, BJMC brought two changes and intensified the attack which yielded a couple of scoring opportunities in the first half but Guinean striker Ismail Bangoura squandered those chances.
After resumption, Uttar Baridhara adopted a defensive strategy and scored two more goals from counter attacks after surviving an equaliser, thanks to a brilliant save from goalkeeper Osman Gani.
Faiz made amends for his earlier miss by doubling the lead in the 66th minute when he drove a low shot into the net past the BJMC goalie after receiving a cross from teammate Khalekuzzaman.
Sujan then wrapped up the tie two minutes from time with a close-range tap in when a header from Tiego was parried by goalkeeper Arifuzzaman to his path.
