Swechhasebak League leader sent to jail for assaulting Natore Water Development Board engineer

A Swechhasebak League leader was sent to jail today by Natore Judicial Magistrate's court after a case was filed against him yesterday for physically assaulting a Natore Water Development Board executive engineer.
Earlier yesterday, police arrested Nafiul Islam Antar, general secretary of Swechhasebak League's Natore municipality unit and the nephew of local MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul, from his home in Bargachha area of the city, our correspondent reported quoting superintendent of police in Natore district Liton Kumar Saha.
In a news briefing, Liton said, "Even if influential, no one will escape legal action." The accused was arrested for beating a government official, he added.
According to police, Antar and his father Mir Amirul Islam Jahan, a contractor who works for the WDB and the treasurer of Natore district Awami League, got into an altercation with the executive engineer when he questioned the quality of the construction work.
At one stage, Antar physically assaulted the engineer. The WDB officials and workers rescued and took him to Natore Sadar Hospital, police said.
Later yesterday, Raihan filed a case against Antar with Natore Police Station on the charge of assaulting him and obstructing a government official from performing his duties, police added.
