Cattle markets and animal sacrifice only in designated areas this Eid: LGRD minister
LGRD Minister Md Tazul Islam today asked concerned authorities to take necessary steps and ensure makeshift cattle markets are set up only in designated places maintaining health guidelines during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
"Makeshift cattle markets will be set up only at approved locations in the city corporations, municipalities, upazilas, and union parishads. Any unapproved cattle market will not be accepted," said the LGRD minister at an inter-ministerial meeting held at the conference room of the Local Government Division.
The meeting chaired by the minister was held to discuss the preparation of waste management during the upcoming Eid.
The minister said the Delta variant of Covid-19 had wreaked havoc in India, and it has already been found in some bordering areas of Bangladesh.
"So, we have to set up makeshift cattle markets taking the highest care to maintain health guidelines. The cattle markets and animal sacrifices will have to be within designated places provided by the authorities concerned," the minister said.
Authorities in city corporations, municipalities, upazilas, and union parishads will select the suitable places for cattle markets and slaughtering sacrificial animals, he said.
Although authorities concerned do not provide lease to set up cattle markets on rail lines and roads, it is still done, he said. It will have to be stopped by joint efforts of the Roads and Highways Department and public representatives of the areas, the minister said.
Like last year, they will arrange awareness campaigns through print and electronic media to maintain health guidelines and social distancing in cattle markets, he said.
