23,000 living in Patuakhali island get electricity connection

Around 45 homes, accommodating nearly 23,000 people in two unions of Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali got electricity connection today through a submarine cable line from Bhola's Char Fasson upazila.
Rangabali, covering 470 square kilometers, is one of eight upazilas in the district but it is totally isolated from the other upazilas. The upazila with five unions was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on February 25 in 2012.
Patuakhali-3 MP SM Shahzada inaugurated the first line of electricity by turning on an electric bulb at the function held in Char Bishwash K Ali College field at 11:00am today under the leadership of the chairman of Char Bishwash Union Parishad Tofazzal Hossain Babul Munshi, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
Among others, present on the occasion were Chairman of Galachipa Upazila Parishad Md Sahin, GM of Bhola Palli Bidyut Samiti in charge of electrification in Char Kajal and Char Bishwash Unions Abul Bashar, Galachipa Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashish Kumar, Upazila Awami League President Santosh Kumar Dey, and General Secretary Golam Mostafa.
Abul Bashar said, the power line has been placed under water with an expenditure of Tk 165 crore, one of the longest submarine cable line (792km) of the country.
