Oikyafront leaders to meet CEC tomorrow

Leaders of Jatiya Oikyafront will meet the chief election commissioner tomorrow to discuss a wide variety of issues ahead of the election.

A 10-member high-profile delegation, including Dr Kamal Hossain and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will pay a visit around 2:00pm.

Sayrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s media wing, confirmed The Daily Star of the meeting scheduled this evening.

Earlier, Dr Kamal Hossain wrote to President Abdul Hamid seeking his appointment and intervention to improve the current political situation in the run-up to the December 30 polls.

The BNP and the Jatiya Oikyafront have been accusing the government of using lawmen to arrest and harass their nominees, leaders and activists across the country.

Since the announcement of the election schedule, the BNP has been lodging complaints with the Election Commission (EC) seeking its action to stop the arrests and harassment.

But, according to opposition leaders, this has not helped improving the country’s prevailing political situation.
