BNP’s Chandpur-3 candidate attacked

BNP candidate for Chandpur-3 constituency Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik came under attack allegedly by Awami League activists during his electioneering in the area today.

A group of Awami League supporters attacked Manik when he along with his followers was carrying out electioneering in Puranabazar area of the town around 12:00pm, our local correspondent reports quoting police and witnesses.

At one stage both the BNP and Awami League supporters locked into chase and counter-chase that left around 20 people including Manik injured. The victims were given treatment at Chandpur Sadar Hospital.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control around 1:00pm, our correspondent reports quoting an eyewitness.

Manik blamed the Awami League and Jubo League activists for the attack and said he will file a case in this connection.

While talking to Mohammad Ali Maghi, joint secretary of the district unit Jubo league, said it was a third party, not Awami League or Jubo League men, carried out the attack in an organised way to taint his party image.
