64 hurt, 9 held in 12 dists

At least 64 people were injured and eight arrested in 22 incidents of violence which took place across country till this afternoon.  

Violence in the forms of clashes, beating, chase and counter chase took place in Dinajpur, Bogura, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Sylhet, Cumilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar and Rangamati districts.    

Rajshahi

Eight people got injured as election violence erupted in three constituencies of Rajshahi this morning.

In Rajshahi-2, a group of people came in front of Onnodasundori Government Primary School centre and started vandalising and attacking the voters at around 10:15am, our local correspondent reports.

Two voters -- Maswar Ali Jonny and Belal -- got injured and later been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

In Rajshahi-3, Habib Mia Khoshru, a voter, was hit by splinters when a crude bomb was exploded in front of Puthiapara Government Primary School in the morning, our correspondent reports quoting sources in Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

In Rajshahi-5, five members of a family got injured when a group of people attacked them on their way to cast their votes, reports our correspondent.

The injured are: Monoara Begum, her daughter Jesmin Nahar and sons Monirujjaman and Arifujjaman; Ronufa Begum, sister in law of Monoara, another source in Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital told The Daily Star.

In all the three cases, the attackers are alleged to be ruling party men.

Noakhali-3

Few voters were seen after miscreants hurled several crude bombs near a polling centre in Begumganj under Noakhali-3 this morning.

Around 15 to 20 bombs were blasted near Ekhlaspur Govt High School Centre in the area around 11:00am, our staff correspondent reports quoting Abu Ashsan Md Mizanur Rahman, presiding officer of the polling centre, and locals.

Out of 4,201 votes, 2,600 votes have been cast by that time at the polling centre, the official said.

Supporters of ruling party candidate were seen inside the polling centre when the correspondent visited the place.

Sylhet-1

Supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Shibir clashed near Bidesh Chandra Primary School around 12:00pm, reports our correspondent.

Laksmipur-3

BNP-Jaamat supporters beat up one Awami League supporter, Ohidur Rahman, at Char Parbotipur under Laksmipur-3 at 1:00pm.

Chandpur-5

At least 20 people were hurt in an incident of chase and counter chase which took place between supporters of Grand Alliance and Oikyafront in Haziganj upazila under Chandpur-5 constituency around 10:00am.

Chandpur-3

At least three people including two policemen were injured in a clash between BNP supporters and police in Hymnchar upazila under Chandpur-5 constituency.
