Police arrested 10 people, including a leader of pro-Awami League Bangabandhu Smrity Sangsad, while they were preparing to commit a robbery staying in a house at Biswas Para in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur early yesterday.
Ten sharp weapons and 14 sticks were seized from their possession.
The arrestees are Prince Sheikh, 27, organising secretary of the sangsad the upazila unit; Tutul Sheikh, 27; Abir Bakshi, 22; Md Hanif Mia, 25; Sany Sikder, 22; Arafat Fakir, 21; Shihab Uddin, 24; Pintu Khan, 25; Selim Sheikh, 19; and Faruk Khan, 22.
Police raided the house around 4:00am and arrested them with the weapons, said Kaliakoir police Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk.
Two cases were filed against them.
