Titas MD removed

Naushad Islam was removed as the managing director (MD) of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd yesterday.

He now has been appointed the MD of Maddhapara Granite Mining Company Ltd, said sources at the power, energy & mineral resources ministry.

General Manager (Vigilance) Mir Mashiur Rahman has been made the acting MD of the Titas.

Naushad's removal came two days after a deadly fire at a six-storey building in the capital's Banani on Friday. At least 10 people were injured in the incident and the building was declared unfit for further use.

Residents of the building and the fire service men said the fire had resulted from a leak in the gas pipe. A flat owner also alleged that they had informed the Titas of the gas leak on four occasions before the fire broke out, but the authorities took no action.
