Robbers shoot 2 to take Tk 5 lakh in city

Armed muggers snatched away around Tk 5 lakh from a woman and her daughter after shooting and injuring them in broad daylight in the capital's Uttara yesterday.

The victims are identified as Shahana Karim, 50, and her daughter Natika Rezwana Karim, 28.

The duo withdrew the money from a bank around noon. On their way home, a gang of four riding on two motorbikes intercepted their car near the Friend's Club ground at sector-3 in Uttara, said Bidhan Tripura, deputy commissioner (Uttara division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The muggers shot them, took away the money and rode away, the DC said.

The injured mother and daughter were later taken to a private hospital.

Police said they were trying to arrest the culprits, using CCTV footage of the incident.
