BANGLADESH ISSUE TO BE RAISED AT ARAB FM'S CONFERENCE
Three Arab countries -- Egypt, Iraq and Syria -- will place Bangladesh's point of view before the ensuing Foreign Ministers' Conference of the Arab countries commencing in Cairo from September 9, 1972. This is disclosed to Foreign Minister Abdus Samad Azad in Dhaka today.
The foreign minister has been able to dispel the misgivings about Bangladesh in the three Arab countries he visited. All the three countries, of which only Iraq has accorded recognition to Bangladesh, have shown their eagerness to establish relationship with Bangladesh. They have also assured their support to Bangladesh for its membership of the United Nations.
WORLD JURISTS' VIEW ON WAR CRIME TRIAL
Eminent international jurists on criminal law are of the view that since genocide had been committed in Bangladesh by the Pakistani army, the offenders are liable to be tried and punished under the international law. This consensus is found among the jurists of international repute who are now deliberating a five-day International Criminal Law Conference being held in Milan.
FRANCE WILL GIVE $3M AS GIFT
France will provide three million dollars as gift to Bangladesh, which will be used to finance, among others, studies of the Kurmitola International Airport and Triple Super-Phosphate factory in Chittagong. This is announced by the French Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Berthlot after his meeting with the Acting Prime Minister Syed Nazrul Islam in Dhaka today.
STEPS TO SUPPLY FOODSTUFF TO OUTLYING AREAS
Food Minister Phani Bhushan Majumdar says in Dhaka today that a special arrangement is being made to get food grains to outlying areas to ease the situation. He informs that a curfew is being imposed on the borders to stop smuggling. He urges the political parties and others to cooperate with the government to keep the price of foodstuff in control.
