UZ chairman ‘threatens’ UNO in Juri upazila

The chairman of Moulvibazar’s Juri upazila allegedly threatened the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) on Friday night.

According to UNO Ashim Chandra Banik, upazila chairman MA Moid Fa-ruk threatened him in front of Banik’s residence.

“I submitted a written complaint with the district administration. The matter has been taken care of after a brief meeting with the district admin-istration.”

He claimed that the two were having difference of opinions on several is-sues.

The Daily Star could not reach the chairman over phone for comments.

The upazila administration in a meeting on Friday decided to launch a drive to evict hawkers illegally occupying pavements in the Upazila Bazar area yesterday. The decision was made after a fruit seller was runover and killed by a vehicle there on June 18.

Locals told this correspondent that the chairman collected rent from the pavement occupiers.
