UPDF man shot dead in Rangamati

Criminals shot dead a member of United Peoples Democratic Front (Democratic faction) in Rangamati Sadar upazila yesterday evening.

The victim is Shanto Chakma, 35, of Mobachhari village in Naniarchar upazila.

Quoting witnesses, police said when Shanto was having his bath with tube well water in Bihar Para village of Rangamati Sadar upazila around 7:00pm, some criminals opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.

Abdul Latif, officer-in-charge of Naniarchar Police Station, said police recovered the body from the spot. 

Tojim Chakma, member of UPDF (Democratic faction) central committee, blamed the United Peoples Democratic Front for the killing of Shanto. He also demanded immediate arrest of his killers.

But the UPDF denied the allegation.

At least 40 members of four groups were shot dead in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region in the last 11 months.
