Trespassing into India: BSF shoots Bangladeshi
Members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot a Bangladeshi cattle trader in Thakurgaon’s Baliadangi upazila early yesterday.
The victim -- Dulal Mia, 30, of the upazila’s Bara Choruigoti village -- was admitted to a private clinic in Rangpur.
According to locals, Dulal and three other cattle traders intruded into Indian border around 12:15am. As they went around 200 yards inside India, members of BSF Barabillah camp opened fire on them.
Dulal sustained bullet wounds during the incident while his allies managed to flee, they added.
On information, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) held a company commander-level flag meeting with its Indian counterpart around 2:00pm, said Lt Col SNM Samiun Nabi Chowdhury, commanding officer of 50th BGB Battalion.
During the meeting, BSF admitted that they opened fire on intruders in the area but they did not confirm if anybody was injured during the shooting, he added.
Meanwhile, Mosabberul Haque, officer-in-charge of Baliadangi Police Station, said their sources confirmed that Dulal was injured in BSF shooting.
