A third-grader girl was allegedly raped by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver in Noakhali's Senbagh upazila yesterday.

According to the victim's mother, the girl was returning home from school when CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Rajon, 25, took her to a nearby garage and raped her.

Hearing her scream, locals rescued her and held the accused. Later, Rajon was handed over to police, she added.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Senbagh Police Station, said they detained Rajon and further investigation was in progress.

Police were processing a case against Rajon until 11:20pm when this report was filed.

Syed Mohiuddin Azim, resident medical officer of Noakhali General Hospital, said the victim was admitted to the hospital around 8:45pm yesterday.

She would go through medical tests today, she added.
