Paltan Blast: 4 ‘Neo-JMB men’ arrested in city
CTTC officials claimed to have arrested four Neo-JMB members who were involved in Paltan bomb blast in July this year.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit yesterday said the four were arrested from the capital's Uttara on Thursday.
The arrestees were Mamun Al Mujahid, Al Amin alias Abu Jihad, Mujahidul Islam alias Rokon alias Abu Tarik and Sarowar Hossain Rahat.
Of them, Mamun Al Mujahid was a robber and wanted in 12 cases, including arms and robbery.
But Mamun alias Sumon alias Abdur Rahman has recently been inspired by the activities of militant outfit Neo-JMB through online platform and started working for it.
He also convinced his three associates to join and work for the outfit.
Based on information, a CTTC team arrested the four and recovered mobile phones from their possession, Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner of CTTC unit, told The Daily Star.
"We arrested the four as they were found involved in planning and instruction of the Paltan bomb blast," he said.
With them, nine Neo JMB members have been arrested in connection with the blast.
On July 24, the outfit members left an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the capital's Paltan which exploded later, but no one got hurt.
The CTTC unit later in a special operation called "Elegant Bite" in Sylhet arrested five members of a Neo JMB cell, including its chief Sheikh Sultan Mohammad Naimuzzaman, on August 11.
Interrogating the five, the investigators came to know about Mamun and three others and made the arrests, said DC Saiful Islam.
"We also got evidence of communications between Naimuzzaman and Mamun," he added.
Besides the Paltan incident, the cell members on July 25 kept a fake IED with a motorbike of a police sergeant in the capital's Gulistan just to spread fear among police personnel, said CTTC officials.
On July 31, the cell members blasted a small crude bomb at a temple in Naogaon, but no one was injured, they added.
