BANGABANDHU'S MESSAGE TO WORKERS
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman today calls upon workers to maintain peace in the industrial areas and devote themselves to the task of reconstruction of the country's war-ravaged economy. Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day convention of Jatiya Sramik League the prime minister says that a lot of sacrifice is required to establish socialism.
He adds, "In the Soviet Union people worked relentlessly for five years after the revolution. They devoted themselves voluntarily to increasing production in all sectors. The workers of Europe also sacrificed a lot to reconstruct their countries following devastation of WWII."
Bangabandhu further says the government could have adopted capitalism to get some easy money from the capitalist donors but it would not because he does not want the future generation to be burdened with debt.
Bangabandhu asks workers to be aware of machinations by various imperialist forces and their local agents. "They are spending crores of taka to create instability in the country. They want to thwart our journey towards socialism. They want to foil the hard-earned independence of the country," says the prime minister.
In his 40-minute speech the prime minister repeatedly mentions the historic role played by the workers in the independence movement.
