‘Drug dealer’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with BGB

A suspected drug trader was killed in a "gunfight" with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Zafor Alam, 30, from Nayapara village under Sabrang union, a BGB official said.
BGB members challenged a boat coming from Myanmar when it was trying to get ashore at Gholarchar ghat in Shahparirdwip area around 2:00am, said Lt Colonel Mohammad Faysal Hasan Khan, commanding officer (CO) of BGB Battalion-2 in Teknaf.
In response, people boarding the boat opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, he said.
Later, they found one bullet-injured person inside the boat while others managed to flee, the CO said, adding that they took him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
BGB recovered two lakh yaba pills worth around Tk 6 crore and a firearm from the boat, said Faysal.
The body was sent to Cox's Bazar General Hospital for autopsy, he said, adding that BGB filed a case in this regard, he added.
