AL picks 41for reserved seats in JS

The Awami League has picked 41 woman candidates for the election to the reserved seats of the 11th parliament, which will be held on March 4.

The ruling party finalised the contenders at a joint meeting of Awami League Parliamentary Board and its Local Government Nomination Board, held with AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the Gono Bhaban.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, announced the names while briefing reporters after the meeting.

According to the proportional representation in the House, the AL will get 43 of the 50 reserved seats, the Jatiya Party four, the BNP one and the others the rest.

The ruling party did not declare the names for its remaining two seats.

The deadline for submitting nomination papers will expire on Monday.

On February 3, the Election Commission announced the election schedule for the reserved seats.

The 41 AL candidates are: Anjum Sultana (Cumilla), Sultana Nadira (Barguna), Hosne Ara (Jamalpur), Rumana Ali (Gazipur), Umme Fatema Nazma Begum (Brahmanbaria), Habiba Rahman Khan Shefali (Netrakona), Sheikh Any Rahman (Pirojpur), Aparajita Haque (Tangail), Shamima Akter Khanam (Sunamganj), Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan (Gazipur), Fazilatun Nesa (Munshiganj), Rabeya Alim (Nilphamari), Tamanna Nusrat Bubli (Narsingdi), Nargis Rahman (Gopalganj), Manira Sultana (Mymensingh), Nahid Ijhar Khan (Dhaka), Khaleda Khanam (Jhenidah), Syeda Rubina Mira (Barishal), Wasika Ayesha Khan (Chattogram), Kazi Kaniz Sultana (Patuakhali), advocate Gloria Jharna Sarker (Khulna), Suborna Mostafa (Dhaka), Zakia Tabassum (Dinajpur), Farida Khanom Saki (Noakhali), Bashanti Chakma (Khagrachhari), Kaniz Fatema Ahmed (Cox's Bazar), Roshema Begum (Faridpur), Syeda Rashida Begum (Kushtia), Syeda Zohra Alauddin (Moulvibazar), Adina Anjum Mita (Rajshahi), Arma Dutta (Cumilla), Shirina Nahar (Khulna), Ferdousi Islam Jessy (Chapainawabganj), Parvin Haque Sikder (Shariatpur), Sajeda Nusrat (Rajbari), Shabna Jahan Shila (Dhaka), Khadizatul Anwar (Chattogram), Zakia Parvin Khanam (Netrakona), Tahmina Begum (Madaripur), Shirin Ahmed (Dhaka) and Zinnatul Bakia (Dhaka).
