24 more die, 1,696 infected in a day

Twenty-four people have died from Covid-19 in the country in the past 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With this, the total number of deaths rose to 5,747, which is 1.46 percent of all confirmed cases.
During the same period, another 1,696 people had tested positive for the viral infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 3,94,827.
Bangladesh is currently 17th in the list of worst affected countries in the world in terms of the number of cases.

The position is one step behind Italy and one step ahead of Germany, according to worldometer.info.
After testing total of 14,958 samples yesterday, the positivity rate stood at 11.34 percent.
With this, the overall positivity rate stands at 17.77 percent.
In the meantime, 1,687 Covid-19 patients have recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,10,532, which is 78.65 percent of all confirmed cases.
Among the 24 dead, 18 were male and six were female and all of them died in hospitals.
One of them was aged between 21 and 30 years, two between 41 and 50, eight between 51 and 60 and the remaining 13 were above 60, added the release.
