'Muggers' kill man in Jessore
A civil auditor of Bangladesh Air Force was stabbed dead in a “mugging incident” in Jessore town yesterday morning.
The dead was identified as Chandan Ghosh, 40, son of Bhabatosh Ghosh. Chandan had worked as a civil auditor of Bir Shrestha Matiur Rahman Air Base of Bangladesh Air Force in Jessore for around nine years.
Joyanto Kumar Ghosh, the victim's nephew, said Chandan came to Doratana of Jessore from Dhaka by bus at 4:30am.
From there, he hired a rickshaw to go home. When he was near Ad-Din Hospital, the “muggers” attacked him by stabbing his legs indiscriminately, and left him on the road before they fled the scene.
Locals rushed him to the 250-bed general hospital where doctor declared him dead at around 5:00am.
Abul Bashar Mia, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Model Police Station, said Chandan was attacked by muggers on his way back home in Jessore.
If the alleged muggers have taken any of Chandan's belongings is yet to be known.
Police have launched a drive to arrest the muggers, the OC added.
