23 detained for alleged militant link
A team of Rab detained 23 people from two madrasas at Hathazari upazila in Chittagong yesterday, for their alleged involvement in militant activities.
Lt Col Mifta Uddin Ahmed, commanding officer of Rab-7, said they received information that plans were being formulated by some people of these madrasas to carry out subversive acts.
Around 3:00pm, Rab members conducted a two-and-a-half-hour long drive in the madrasas and detained 23 people on the suspicion they may be involved in militant activities.
The law enforcers seized laptops, tablet PCs and other documents from the detainees.
“We will interrogate them to ascertain whether they are involved in militant activities,” said the Rab commanding officer (CO).
He, however, declined to mention the name of the madrasas.
