2 university students found dead
Two university students were found hanging from a ceiling fan of a flat in Bashundhara Residential area in the city yesterday.
The deceased are Nusrat Jahan Nira, 20, and Sabid Hasan Hridoy, 22.
Both of them were students of North South University (NSU). Nira was a first year student of Pharmacy and Hridoy a first year student of BBA at the university.
Nazrul Islam, sub-inspector of Bhatara Police Station, told The Daily Star that they were informed around 7.30pm that two NSU students, one a female and another a male, locked themselves up from inside and that they were not responding for long.
Rushing to the house in Block D, police knocked on the door. As there was no reply, they broke the lock and entered the flat, the SI said.
The students committed suicide, the SI suspected, adding that police could not unearth the reason behind it however.
Quoting a neighbour of the building, Nazrul said Hridoy along with some fellow students lived in the rented flat and Nira went there at times to meet with Hridoy.
He said the incident might take place anytime between 1.30pm and 7.30pm as Hridoy did not answer to any of the phone calls by his relatives during that time.
He also said Hridoy, whose father is a conductor, was from Jamalpur and Hira, whose father is abroad, was from Naraynganj.
